The Local Government Department has said that the matter of Ishraq Hossain taking oath as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is pending in the Supreme Court, as the matter is pending in the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Local Government has said.<\/p>\n
This information was given in a press release signed by Md. Salahuddin, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, on Tuesday (May 27). The release said that the Local Government Department was making necessary preparations to administer the oath to Ishraq Hossain as mayor after a writ filed in the High Court on May 22 was dismissed. But on May 25, Ishraq Hossain himself filed another writ petition in the High Court demanding the oath.<\/p>\n
It was further mentioned that then on May 26, a leave to appeal was filed in the Appellate Division on behalf of a citizen against the previous order of the High Court. As a result, the matter is now pending in the Appellate Division. For this reason, the Local Government Department is currently waiting for the final decision of the court regarding the swearing-in of the mayor.<\/p>\n
Earlier, his lawyer Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon sent a legal notice to the government to swear in Engineer Ishraq Hossain as the mayor of DSCC by Monday. This legal notice was sent to the Local Government Ministry on Monday (May 26) in accordance with the City Corporation Act 2009.<\/p>\n
