A court has sentenced expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Noor Papia to four years in prison in a money laundering case. She has also been fined Tk 5 lakh.<\/p>\n
The Dhaka Special Judge’s Court announced the verdict on Sunday (May 25). However, the other four accused in the case were acquitted.<\/p>\n
Shamima Noor Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman were arrested from Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport in February 2020.<\/p>\n
The investigation into the case revealed that a criminal gang was formed through politics and influence. Illegal activities were going on in several hotels in Dhaka – where weapons, drugs, and huge amounts of money were traded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
