Formal charges have been filed against former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman Habib and eight others in the International Crimes Tribunal for the killing of six people during the student uprising in Chankharpul in the capital on August 5, 2014. This marks the beginning of the formal trial of the first case of the July Revolution.<\/p>\n
The formal trial began at the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday (May 25).<\/p>\n
The tribunal’s investigation agency filed a full investigation report accusing eight people in the case on April 20. That report was formally submitted to the tribunal today. This marks the beginning of the judicial proceedings in the Anas murder case.<\/p>\n
The accused include former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Joint Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, former Additional Deputy Commissioners of Ramna region Shah Alam and Md. Akhtarul Islam, former Assistant Commissioner of Ramna region Mohammad Imrul, former Inspector of Shahbagh Police Station Md. Arshad Hossain, Constables Md. Sujan Hossain, Imaz Hossain and Md. Nasirul Islam. Some of them are absconding.<\/p>\n
The case statement said that on August 5 last year, the police opened fire using lethal firearms during a peaceful protest by students in the Chankharpul area. Many casualties occurred.
