41 Australian Senators and MPs have written to Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, demanding the democratic process in Bangladesh, the trial of the July Revolution and the abolition of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).<\/p>\n
The letter was sent via e-mail on Wednesday (May 21).<\/p>\n
The letter expressed deep concern about the current political situation in Bangladesh and called for the immediate announcement of a transparent and time-bound electoral roadmap.<\/p>\n
In the letter, the Australian MPs said, \u201cWe recognize the courage and bravery shown by the people of Bangladesh in the July Revolution last year. This has provided your administration with a historic opportunity to restore democracy, uphold human rights and rebuild public trust in the system of governance.\u201d<\/p>\n
They said, \u201cA transparent and internationally supervised electoral roadmap is urgently needed for the democratic legitimacy and stability of Bangladesh. As expected by the Australian Bangladeshi community, this roadmap should be announced within this year and should ensure equal opportunities for all political parties.\u201d<\/p>\n
They also said that the last three elections in Bangladesh lacked the legitimacy necessary for a stable, democratic government. We urge your government to restore electoral integrity and ensure a peaceful democratic transition.<\/p>\n
The senators and MPs said that it is crucial to ensure justice for those killed and injured during the July Revolution. According to reports from international organizations, thousands of people were killed and injured.
