The European Union (EU) is lifting economic sanctions on Syria. The EU has taken this decision to help rebuild the war-torn country. Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported this information in a report on Wednesday (May 21).<\/p>\n
The report said that ambassadors from the 27 EU member states have already reached a preliminary agreement on this decision. The announcement is expected to be made officially at a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels on Tuesday (May 20) local time.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to help the Syrian people build a new, inclusive and peaceful Syria,\u201d EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas Kallas said in a post on social media X (Twitter) after a meeting with ministers in Brussels.<\/p>\n
He also said that the EU has always stood by Syria for the past 14 years \u2014 and will continue to do so.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that Syria, facing more than ten years of conflict, humanitarian crisis, and economic disaster, is now looking to the Western world for international assistance and reconstruction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
