US President Donald Trump has temporarily suspended tariffs on Canada and Mexico. He announced this on Thursday (March 6) local time. This information was revealed from a report by the British news agency Reuters.<\/p>\n
The exemption granted by Trump to Canada and Mexico, two of the United States’ largest trading partners, will expire on April 2. From that day, Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on the products of all US trading partners around the world as a retaliatory measure.<\/p>\n
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said, “On April 2, we are going to impose retaliatory tariffs on the products of (trading partners around the world). Hopefully, Mexico and Canada will take sufficient steps to stop the flow of fentanyl into the United States.”<\/p>\n
Last Tuesday, Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on goods imported from Canada and Mexico to the United States. Two days later, yesterday morning, he temporarily exempted only Mexico from this measure. However, when he signed the amendment in this regard after noon, he also included Canada; That means Canada is also exempted from the tariffs. All three countries are part of the North American Free Trade Agreement.<\/p>\n
