Germany held national elections on Sunday. The country is going to get a new leader through this. The election is being viewed with great importance due to several reasons including economic recession, terrorist attacks, and immigrants. 69-year-old Friedrich Merz is leading in the polls. It is believed that he will be the country’s next vice chancellor; but he may have to rely on another party to form a government. Because the election wind says that no party will get a single majority.<\/p>\n
According to BBC news, if Merz’s conservative party, the Christian Democrats (CDU), is the one, he will have to form a coalition with at least one party. In that case, he may join hands with Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party.<\/p>\n
Incidentally, early elections were announced after the fall of Scholz’s government last year. Merkel has said she will solve most of the problems facing Europe’s biggest economy within four years if she becomes chancellor. The 69-year-old has also vowed not to form a coalition with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).<\/p>\n
Analysts expect the anti-immigration AfD to come in second place, overtaking Scholz’s centre-left party. Of the 59.2 million Germans eligible to vote, many have already cast their ballots by post.
