Under the food-friendly program, the government will provide a total of three lakh tons of rice in March and April ahead of the upcoming Ramadan. In addition, five million families will receive 15 kg of rice at a price of Tk 30 per kg under this program, said Ali Imam Majumdar, advisor to the Ministry of Food and Land.<\/p>\n
He said these things at the end of the first session of the second day of the District Commissioner (DC) conference on the Ministry of Food and Land today, Monday.<\/p>\n
The advisor said, “A large amount of food grains will be distributed at very affordable prices and in some cases free of charge during the month of Ramadan. The DCs have been instructed to manage this program in an orderly manner.”<\/p>\n
The food advisor also said, “Another five million tons of rice, one lakh tons, will be distributed in two months through TCB. Another one lakh tons will be distributed through OMS. Apart from this, one crore families will receive 10 kg of rice free of charge during Eid. There are some other such programs.”<\/p>\n
Ali Imam Majumdar said, “These rice will be of great help in controlling the price in the market. These distribution activities will be carried out by various authorities but the main supervision will be by the DCs. Among them, these activities were not closely supervised earlier in Dhaka Metropolitan. We have specifically instructed the concerned people of Dhaka to strictly supervise the matter.\u2019<\/p>\n
He also said, \u2018I have had a separate meeting with the Commissioner of Dhaka Division, and I will meet again. There are 122 sales centers and 70 truck cells in this division. In addition to TCB, I have asked them to supervise them with magistrates if necessary.\u2019<\/p>\n
