The UN Human Rights Office has recommended the abolition of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC), the national telecommunications surveillance agency. It has also recommended limiting the activities of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Directorate General of Defense Intelligence (DGFI).<\/p>\n
These recommendations were made in a fact-finding report on human rights violations and torture related to the July coup on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The UN investigation team has made about 50 recommendations to ensure accountability and justice and find the root cause of the problem.<\/p>\n
The recommendation says that all cases of extrajudicial killings and disappearances must be investigated in an impartial, effective, and impartial manner. It has recommended the abolition of RAB and NTMC. The report, recommending the abolition of NTMC, says that the organization has curtailed the personal freedoms of citizens.<\/p>\n
Other recommendations include sending back to their own forces if there are no complaints against anyone in the force; Tightening the legal powers of intelligence agencies including BGB and DGFI; keeping Ansar and BGB independent from the military; ensuring the duration of the military’s work and presence in the field in any internal situation through the issuance of an ordinance.<\/p>\n
Investigating all members of the law enforcement agencies who are accused of human rights violations according to international standards.<\/p>\n
The former government committed atrocities in the July coup to cling to power in the face of public opposition, said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.<\/p>\n
