Paul Martin, the inspector general of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has been fired. A USAID official told Reuters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
According to a CNN report, Paul Martin was fired yesterday. He was also given an e-mail to inform him of the matter.<\/p>\n
It is learned that Paul Martin was removed from his post a day after a report was published by the USAID Inspector General’s Office.<\/p>\n
The report also said that various actions of the Trump administration have crippled USAID’s capacity. As a result, the agency is unable to properly monitor about $8.2 billion worth of unspent aid.<\/p>\n
Incidentally, Donald Trump, after taking office as president of the United States for the second time in January, wanted to dismantle the agency out of anger.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that Paul Martin had been serving as the agency’s inspector general since December 2023. The position requires the approval of a US senator. It is said that his removal from office has created a delicate situation. For this reason, the official confirmed the news of Martin’s removal from office on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Trent Morse, deputy director of the President’s Office of Personnel, informed Martin of the removal from his post in an email.<\/p>\n
The email said that Martin has been dismissed from his post as inspector general of USAID “effective immediately.”<\/p>\n
However, the email did not mention any reason for Martin’s dismissal. In addition, the White House has not commented on the matter so far.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, a report released by the Inspector General’s Office on Monday said that by dismantling USAID, the Trump administration has crippled its ability to oversee $8.2 billion in unspent aid.<\/p>\n
The report also said that the layoffs and closures have made it difficult for taxpayer-funded aid to reach them.<\/p>\n
Trump called USAID \u201cincompetent and corrupt\u201d at a press conference on Tuesday. At that time, he gave the responsibility of reducing the organization\u2019s expansion to billionaire Elon Musk.<\/p>\n
