Bengali signage was first added to the White Chapel tube station in 2022. Its main purpose was to recognize the outstanding contribution of the Bangladeshi community living in East London. The project is funded by Tower Hamlets Council. Many Bangladeshis have been living in White Chapel and the surrounding areas for a long time. According to various reports, it is home to the largest Bangladeshi community in the UK. The number of Bangladeshis in the area has been increasing significantly since the 1970s.
