Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain said, I have seen the border road in Naikshongchhari Upazila. I have seen the place to build a land port. There are plans for it. We will keep an eye on the future and see if a land port can be built there. Because, no matter what happens in Myanmar in the future, we have a relationship with Rakhine State in the past, we still have and will continue to have it. Since the Rohingya are in that area, we will also look at that and make a plan for the future so that a land port can be built there.<\/p>\n
He told reporters these things after inspecting the potential site for the construction of the border road in Naikshongchhari Upazila and the Ghumdhum land port yesterday. However, since January 16, the junta government has stopped border trade after Myanmar’s rebel group Arakan Army seized cargo boats carrying goods on their way from Yangon to Teknaf Land Port. Due to which, no cargo boats have come from Yangon to Teknaf Land Port for 23 days.
