Bangladesh Awami League Advisory Council member Inam Ahmed Chowdhury has died (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun). He suffered a heart attack at his residence in Banani, Dhaka around 5 pm today, Monday. He was declared dead by the doctor on duty when he was taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n
Inam Ahmed Chowdhury’s family members confirmed his death. He was 87 years old at the time of his death.<\/p>\n
Retired Inam Ahmed Chowdhury officially joined the BNP in 1999. Then, he was the chairman of the Privatization Commission with the status of a state minister during the BNP-Jamaat alliance government in 2001. After serving as a member of the BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council, he was made the party’s vice chairman.<\/p>\n
Former bureaucrat Inam Ahmed joined the Awami League on December 19, ahead of the 11th National Parliament election, by presenting a bouquet of flowers to Sheikh Hasina. Inam Ahmed Chowdhury was made a member of the Awami League’s Advisory Council at the 20th National Council of the Awami League.<\/p>\n
Inam Ahmed Chowdhury was born on 29 June 1937 in Barokot village of Golapganj, Sylhet. His father, Giasuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, was the Commissioner of Dhaka. His mother, Rafiqunnesa Khatun Chowdhury.<\/p>\n
Inam started his education in Shillong, Assam, then British India. While he was the General Secretary of Dhaka College Students’ Union in 1952-53, he was expelled from the college for his activities related to the construction of Shaheed Minar and the state language movement. He obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Department of Economics, International Relations and Law of Dhaka University. Later, he also studied for a master’s degree from Oxford University.<\/p>\n
Inam Ahmed Chowdhury joined the Civil Service of Pakistan in 1960. He was the Secretary of the UN ‘ESCAP’ Commission in Bangkok, Vice President of IDB. President of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London.
