The Appellate Division has fixed February 26 as the date for hearing the appeal of the accused convicted in the murder case of Awami League leader and former Gazipur MP Ahsan Ullah Master.<\/p>\n
Today, Wednesday, the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed fixed this date.<\/p>\n
Senior lawyer Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal was present in the court on behalf of the accused.<\/p>\n
Earlier, on January 14, an application was made to the Appellate Division to hear the appeal of the accused convicted in the murder case of Awami League leader and former Gazipur MP Ahsan Ullah Master. Senior lawyer Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal made this application on behalf of the accused.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that in 2004, Awami League leader and former Gazipur MP Ahsan Ullah Master was killed in a brushfire by terrorists at a local public meeting. After that, the case was heard in the High Court after the verdict in the trial court. After the hearing, the High Court gave the verdict. However, the state and the accused filed separate appeals in the Appellate Division against that verdict.<\/p>\n
According to the case file, on May 7, 2004, terrorists shot and killed Ahsan Ullah Master at a public meeting at the MA Majid Mia High School grounds in Noagaon, Tongi, Gazipur. The next day after the incident, Ahsan Ullah Master’s brother Matiur Rahman filed a case at the Tongi Police Station, naming 17 people and against 10 to 12 unidentified people.<\/p>\n
After the trial, on April 16, 2005, the trial court sentenced 22 people including Nurul Islam Sarkar to death, and six others to life imprisonment, and acquitted two others.<\/p>\n
Later, a death reference was filed in the High Court regarding the verdict of the trial court. Along with this, a jail appeal was filed on behalf of the accused. Then, in the verdict of the 15th High Court of 2016, the hanging of six people was upheld. Out of the 30 accused in this case, a total of 28 people were sentenced in the lower court. Of these, 22 were sentenced to death and six to life imprisonment.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that of the convicted defendants, 17 are in prison and 9 are absconding. In addition, two have died.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
