Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the interim government’s chief adviser, has said that the Awami League will not be able to return to politics unless it accepts responsibility for crimes against humanity. He made this comment in a post on his Facebook ID on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Shafiqul Alam wrote that the Awami League supporters who supported the genocide are still under the illusion that they will be able to return to the political process if the country heads for elections. But unfortunately, this will not be possible unless they accept responsibility for crimes against humanity and exclude those involved in murders and disappearances.<\/p>\n
He wrote that those involved in the killings and human rights violations committed during the Awami League regime from 2009 to 2024 and those who ordered them will be tried.<\/p>\n
Shafiqul Alam wrote that in recent months, diplomats and officials from various countries have met. They have rarely called for reconciliation. They also understand that if the perpetrators do not admit their crimes, how can reconciliation be called for? Rather, they have expressed more support for reforms and fixing the country’s institutions.<\/p>\n
He wrote, International rights groups have clearly shown how unarmed peaceful protesters were brutally massacred in July-August. In particular, I would urge the general public to watch the documentaries made on the Jatrabari massacre and the Hridoy murder.<\/p>\n
The press secretary of the chief advisor wrote, More documentaries are coming. Students of every university in the country are making documentaries to highlight the crimes committed on their campuses.<\/p>\n
He wrote, Awami League supporters have been spending money day after day to try to erase the memory of the 1974 famine, the Rakshi Bahini massacre and Sheikh Mujib’s one-party rule.<\/p>\n
Shafiqul Alam wrote, The current generation has woken up. This generation is aware of every human rights violation of the dictatorship. Their efforts are refreshing old memories every day.<\/p>\n
He wrote, Awami League’s activities have also shaken UK politics. The world has also woken up to the horrific crimes of Awami League. Yet the supporters of the Awami League are not silent.
