Professor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, advisor to the Ministry of Education of the interim government, said, \u2018The state of the country\u2019s education sector and education system is very fragile. It is not possible to reform this sector in a short time. And it is not possible to do anything by working for three months. Therefore, there is not much benefit in forming a reform commission. This is my opinion. I have said this.\u2019<\/p>\n
He said these things at a meeting with the Education Reporters Association of Bangladesh (ERAB), a delegation of journalists from the Education Beat, at the Planning Commission in Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The education advisor said, \u2018It takes a long time for the education system to deteriorate in a country. It is a cycle. If the primary school is bad, the secondary school will also deteriorate. After they graduate, they will become teachers again and teach. In this way, the education system gradually collapses.\u2019<\/p>\n
Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud said, \u2018The education system in Bangladesh first deteriorated in 1972. Yusuf Ali was the Education Minister during Bangabandhu\u2019s time. He had a very wrong decision. That was – the good colleges, the famous colleges called; BM College, Dhaka College, Murari Chand College, Rajshahi College; first he made them university colleges. Then politically all the colleges were nationalized. Although not nationalized, colleges were built in villages on individual initiative, and approval was obtained. This is how today’s National University was built. Now the students who passed out from this university are the most unemployed.’<\/p>\n
Regarding corruption in the education sector, he said, ‘Corruption in the education administration cannot be solved in a day. I once said in the ministry that I want to make it corruption-free. Everyone in the ministry has heard that, but this message must also be given to the education departments. Then, if any evidence of corruption is found, an example must be made by taking action against it.’<\/p>\n
