The tradition of this letter exchange began in 1989 with President Ronald Reagan. He wrote a funny note for his successor, George H.W. Bush. The letter had a picture of an elephant surrounded by turkeys, and it read\u2014 \u201cMay the turkeys not let you down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since then, every outgoing president has left a personal message for his successor. Where love, good wishes and experiences of serving as president are shared.<\/p>\n
As per tradition, Joe Biden has also left a letter for the new President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
A reporter asked Trump if Biden had left a letter! Then Trump smiled and said, \u201cMaybe he did.\u201d Then he opened the drawer of his Resolute desk and found this letter. Upon receiving the letter, Trump said in a surprised manner, \u201cOhh.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also showed the envelope to the reporters present. At that time, he joked, \u201cIf you hadn\u2019t told me, it would have taken me years to find it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Upon receiving the letter, Trump initially said, \u201cLet\u2019s all read it together.\u201d But he later changed his mind and said, \u201cFirst I\u2019ll read it, then I\u2019ll tell you.\u201d<\/p>\n
