Lightning kills player during football match
A player was killed and at least nine others were injured in a football match in Thailand’s southern Narathiwat province after being struck by lightning. The accident occurred during a match of the Golcok Cup regional tournament held at the Santifap Stadium on Wednesday.
Gulf News reported, based on information from Thai media, that the stadium was raining heavily during the match. In such a situation, 24-year-old player Safwan Ao died on the spot after being struck by lightning. Among those injured in the lightning strike was a Malaysian player. It is known that many of the injured suffered burns to various parts of their bodies. Immediately after the accident, the organizers announced the abandonment of the match.
It is worth noting that lightning is a common natural disaster in Thailand during the rainy season. Therefore, the country’s government regularly warns the public not to be in open areas unnecessarily during rain.
