Obaidul Quader ordered the attack, his and Saddam’s call records submitted to the tribunal

On the second day of arguments against banned Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and seven top leaders in the July coup case, the state submitted a call record to the court today (August 6). The state claimed that the call record is a conversation between the then Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader and the central president of the Chhatra League Saddam Hossain.
In the audio recording presented as evidence to the judicial panel led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal-2, Saddam Hossain can be heard informing the then Bridge Minister about the protesting students’ programs, rallies and press conferences.
Hearing the students’ programs, Obaidul Quader told Saddam Hossain, ‘Why aren’t you doing anything? Why aren’t you killing them?’ Why are you letting them fight?’ In response, Saddam Hossain told them that they had been ‘banned’, Obaidul Quader said, ‘You said that everything would become easier from today. Where did it become easier? Jamaat means Jamaat and BNP have joined here.’
Saddam Hossain then said that if they received an ‘order to confront politically’ they could do so. However, that day, the police and ‘Biplob Da’ repeatedly forbade them from going towards Shahbagh or confronting the protesters. The state said that the phone conversation between the two took place on July 11, 2024. Where Obaidul Quader directly called Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and ordered him to attack the students.
