Jatiotabadi Shangskritik Joot, Chattogram Holds July Mass Uprising Day; Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain Donates Tk 8 Lac to Shaheed Families

To mark July Mass Uprising Day, the Jatiotabadi Shangskritik Joot, Chattogram organized a discussion meeting and cultural program at the Zia Memorial Museum Auditorium.
The event was chaired by Dilshad Ahmed, Convener of the Jatiotabadi Shangskritik Joot, Chattogram and moderated by Dr. Mohammed Esa Chowdhury, Member Secretary. The Chief Guest was Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Mayor of the Chattogram City Corporation.
The keynote speech was delivered by Rafiqul Islam, Secretary General of the Jatiotabadi Shangskritik Joot and a leader of the professional community. Special guests included ABM Sohel Rashid, Joint Secretary General of the Jatiotabadi Shangskritik Joot, poet and actor; Professor S. M. Nasrul Quadir, Vice-Chancellor of Premier University; Zahidul Karim Kochi, Convener of the Combined Professionals Council; and Dr. Khurshid Jamil, Member Secretary of the council.
During the event, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain donated Tk 8 Lach from his personal fund to the families of eight martyrs, providing Tk 100,000 to each family.
In his address, the Mayor said that the nation would always remember with deep respect those who sacrificed their lives during the July–August 2024 Mass Uprising. He stated that those who laid down their lives for the rights of the people, democracy, and a better future for the country would never be forgotten. He added that honoring their sacrifice and standing beside the families of the martyrs is a moral responsibility for all.
In his keynote speech, Rafiqul Islam said that “cultural fascists” are re-emerging and must be resisted at all costs. A documentary on the July Mass Uprising was also screened during the program.
Among others present were Principal Md. Shah Alamgir, BNP leader Gazi Siraj, Dr. Zubair Al Mahmud, Engineer Kamruzzaman, environmentalist Mohammad Ali Shahin, Dr. Hasanul Banna, Dr. Sagar Azad, Dr. Monayem Farhad, Dr. Asif, poet Farooq Jahangir, Touhidul Islam Rana, Fauzia Sharmin Sampa, Dr. Harun, Nadia Tasnim Nipa, Simon, Shihab Riyad, Zulfikar Ahmed, Riyad Mahmud, Ashraful Islam Titu, Ilyas Ilu, SI Jewel, Mohammad Forkan, Dr. Raihan, Masud Ahmed Rana, Mohammad Sayeed and all the leaders and speakers highlighted the significance of the July Uprising, sacrifice and the importance of democratic values. At the same time, emphasis was placed on further strengthening cultural activities to highlight the history and spirit of the July Uprising to the new generation. Later, cultural programs were performed by the Nationalist Cultural Alliance, Chittagong’s own artists.
