Protests in Pakistan demanding Imran Khan’s release after completing 3 years in prison

Former Pakistani Prime Minister and former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team Imran Khan has completed 3 years in prison. At this time, leaders and workers of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a protest in Karachi.
During the protest, police fired tear gas and used heavy baton charges to disperse the leaders and workers. At this time, the police detained several protesters. In retaliation, the protesters also hurled bricks and stones at the police, turning the area into a battlefield and the situation became extremely heated. However, despite the strict action of the police, PTI supporters regrouped and continued to chant anti-government slogans.
It is worth noting that Imran Khan has been serving a 14-year prison sentence since his arrest on August 5, 2023 in a corruption case. He and his party have been denying the charges as politically motivated since the beginning. On the other hand, the Pakistani government claims that the former prime minister’s release depends entirely on the legal process of the court.
