Father kills girl for marrying against family’s wishes

A 22-year-old girl was strangled to death by her father in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The incident took place on Monday (August 3) in Pratap Nagar under Jaitpur police station area of ​​Agra. The deceased girl has been identified as Ankita Sharma. Police have arrested the accused Bimal Sharma in this incident.
Police said that Ankita married a member of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) of the Indian Border Guard Force (BTF) earlier this year against her family’s wishes on a court order. It has been alleged that since then, the family had been pressuring her to break the marriage.
According to local sources, the neighbours heard screams coming from the house at the time of the incident and informed the police. Later, the police reached the spot and recovered Ankita’s body. Agra Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Agarwal said that the police reached the spot quickly after receiving the information. The body has been sent for post-mortem and the accused father has been arrested.
“Initial investigations suggest that several others may have been involved in the murder. The matter is being investigated seriously and it is being ascertained whether anyone else is involved in this incident,” he said. Police said further legal action will be taken based on the autopsy report and information obtained during the investigation.
