A record number of citizens have left Israel by 2025 due to ongoing political tensions, economic crises and prolonged military conflicts. This wave of emigration continues. This information is known according to a new report by researchers at Tel Aviv University.
According to the report, 268,509 Israeli citizens left the country between 2023 and 2025 for trips lasting at least three months. The trend, which began in 2023, peaked in 2024. The influential Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported this information, citing a study by Tel Aviv University.
According to the report, a study conducted by researchers at Tel Aviv University found that 86,509 people left Israel for at least three months or more in 2023. This number increased to 91,499 in 2024 and another 90,922 left the country in 2025. The study said that a total of about 269,000 people left Israel for a long time between 2023 and 2025. That is, an average of about 90,000 people left Israel per year. However, from 2010 to 2019, this average was about 60,000 per year. Between 2013 and 2015, this number was about 183,219, which is significantly lower than in the recent three years.
Yedioth Ahronoth cited a previous report stating that the emigration of doctors, PhD holders, engineers, university teachers and other high-income professionals from Israel has also increased significantly in recent times. According to the newspaper, Israel’s economy is largely dependent on highly skilled human resources, especially in the high-tech sector and knowledge-based industries. As a result, the emigration of skilled manpower from Israel will pose a major challenge for the economy in the long term.
The study comes at a time when, in addition to the ongoing war in Gaza since October 2023, Israeli military operations in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran continue. According to the Israeli military, at least 966 Israeli soldiers have been killed so far in the Gaza war that began in October 2023. According to official estimates, Israel’s total population is currently over 10 million.
