6 Bangladeshis detained in Delhi for visa-related issues

Six Bangladeshi nationals have been detained under ‘Operation Vista 1.0’ (Visa Status Verification) conducted by the ‘Foreigner Cell’ of India’s Central District Special Staff. Officials said they were detained on Sunday (August 2) for violating the conditions of their double-entry visas.
The officials further said that these six foreign nationals were staying in India for more than the maximum 15 days allowed for each visit on their double-entry visas. The violation came to light during a special verification drive conducted at various hotels and guesthouses in the Central District.
After verification of their passports, visas and travel documents, legal proceedings were initiated through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The FRRO has issued a ‘Restriction Order’ against them. The six have since been shifted to the Seva Dham Detention Centre (DTC). They will remain there until the deportation process is completed.
How they were arrested
As part of the ongoing drive against visa violations by foreign nationals, the Foreigner Cell of the Central District Special Staff launched ‘Operation Vista 1.0’. The main objective of the drive was to identify and take appropriate legal action against foreign nationals who are staying in Delhi after the expiry of their visa or violating the conditions of their visa.
The drive was led by Inspector-in-Charge of the Central District Special Staff, Sandeep Yadav and supervised by ACP (Operations) Padma Singh Rana. During the drive, a team of the Foreigner Cell conducted extensive searches at various hotels and guesthouses in the Central District. Six Bangladeshi nationals were found during the search at a hotel on Arakanshan Road in Nabi Karim.
During interrogation, the six persons stated that they had entered India on a valid double-entry visa and were staying at the ‘Sarthak Place’ hotel in central Delhi. However, verification of their passports, visas and immigration documents revealed that they were allowed to stay in India for a maximum of 15 days each as per the terms of their visas. However, they were staying in India beyond this period without any valid permission or extension from the competent authorities.
Finally, after verification of the documents and immigration records, the FRRO took action under the applicable provisions relating to visa violations and stay of foreign nationals in India. They have been directed to be sent to the Seva Dham Detention Centre located at Shahjada Bagh, Sarai Rohila, Delhi and legal proceedings are currently underway for their deportation or repatriation.
