Sai Pallavi is a name in South Indian cinema who has repeatedly broken the boundaries of glamour and has been praised for her honesty and natural beauty. The actress has never compromised on her principles and ideals. For example, in 2019, she turned down a huge offer of Rs 2 crore for a fairness cream ad.
This incident is a big proof of how much she prioritizes her self-respect and social responsibility over money or fame. In an interview given to ‘Bollywood Hungama’ in December 2020, Sai Pallavi said that she has seen with her own eyes the so-called skin color discrimination prevalent in the society in the name of beauty awareness. She knows how relatives and friends suffer from inferiority complex due to skin color.
One incident in particular that happened to her younger sister deeply touched her heart. Since Pallavi’s sister was slightly darker, her mother often forced her to eat fruits and vegetables, saying that eating them would make her skin fairer. This unintentional fight with her sister left a deep impression on Sai Pallavi.
The actress said, “I was very hurt to see my sister suffering like this. At that moment, I felt that at least for my sister’s sake, I should stand up against this injustice. Otherwise, what would I do with so much money?”
Sai Pallavi is very simple in her personal life. She does not like to use any beauty products. Since she is not comfortable with makeup, she does not try to hide her acne or skin blemishes on or off screen. According to her, people should learn to love themselves just the way they are.
However, the situation was not like this before Rupali came on screen. Before making her debut with the movie ‘Premam’ in 2015, Sai Pallavi herself suffered from severe inferiority complex due to acne. She used to use hundreds of creams to cover her acne and was hesitant to leave the house. She felt like everyone was talking about her acne instead of her eyes. However, after the release of ‘Premam’, the whole picture changed. The audience accepted her without makeup and with acne. Especially the teenagers and the younger generation understood that skin color or skin problems cannot be a barrier.
This love from the audience gives Sai Pallavi new strength. Pallavi feels that the fans who have accepted and loved her for her natural form should not break their trust by advertising fairing creams. If such advertisements are aired, the common people will be suspicious about their skin color and will have problems with their body image. Therefore, she did not want to cheat the feelings of her fans in any way.
The actress will next be seen playing the role of Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited epic film ‘Ramayana: Part 1’, which is set to hit the theatres on November 8 this year. Just as her character on screen is bound to create a stir, her exceptional ideals have inspired millions in real life as well.
