I am not afraid of death, I am a July fighter myself: Hero Alam
Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alam is the most talked about and criticized content creator in the country. He is often in the discussion on various issues. A case has been filed against 28 people, including actors and actresses from the cultural sphere and journalists, on charges of crimes against humanity in the July 2024 mass uprising. Content creator Hero Alam’s name is also on that list.
Al Noor Mohammad Ayas, the central member secretary of a social and civil society organization called ‘State Dialogue Forum’ (SDF), filed the complaint with the International Criminal Tribunal last Sunday (July 26). The complaint was submitted to the chief prosecutor of the tribunal this afternoon.
However, Hero Alam has strongly protested and claimed that the allegations against him are ‘false, fabricated and conspiratorial’. He said, Hero Alam cannot be suppressed with false cases. The content creator has even warned that legal action will be taken against the complainants if they cannot prove their allegations with evidence. He said these things at a press conference organized in front of the National Press Club on Monday (July 27) afternoon.
Hero Alam said, ‘I have spoken against Awami League MPs, ministers and the Prime Minister all my life. For this, I have been attacked and beaten many times. But now the case filed against me is completely false and fabricated. For a long time, a group has been trying to kill and defame me.’
He complained and said, ‘If those who filed cases in my name cannot prove their allegations with evidence, then I will be forced to file a case against them. I am not afraid of death. Even if one Hero Alam leaves, nothing will happen.’
Claiming himself to be a July protester, he raised the question at the press conference, ‘Why did you suddenly remember my name after two years of the movement? Where have you been all this time? I was with the students during the movement. I myself am a July struggler.’ ‘Now these allegations and cases are being filed against me out of revenge.’ Hero Alam, claiming to have never been involved in Awami League politics, said, ‘Can you show me any post where I have sought votes or campaigned for Awami League? I have always spoken against injustice. Is this my crime?’
