2 killed in shooting in Washington
Two people were killed and five were injured in a shooting at Seattle Center in Washington state, US. A two-year-old child was among the injured. The incident occurred at the ‘Bite of Seattle’ food and music festival on Sunday (July 26) local time.
Local media outlet KOMO News quoted emergency services as saying that the annual ‘Bite of Seattle’ food and music festival was underway at Seattle Center at the time of the shooting. The Seattle Police Department said in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that they had opened an investigation into the multiple casualties. At the same time, they urged the public to avoid the scene.
Police did not immediately release any information on the physical condition of the injured. In addition, there was no official information on whether any suspects had been arrested in the incident. Although several videos circulating on social media showed police removing a man from the scene, authorities have not confirmed whether the person was involved in the shooting.
Seattle Center, located near Seattle’s famous Space Needle observation tower, was the site of the 1962 World’s Fair, and hosted the annual “Bite of Seattle” festival, which lasted for a week. Hundreds of local food vendors and musicians participated. Police said an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the incident and the identity of the attacker.
