Iran warns Ukraine will not be spared over attack on merchant ship at sea
Iran has warned that Ukraine will not be spared over the attack on an Iranian merchant ship in the Caspian Sea. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the announcement in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday (July 26).
Araghchi said that the Ukrainian attack is a clear violation of the UN Charter. Tehran alleges that Ukraine carried out the attack on the orders of Israel to embroil Europe in the Middle East conflict. On the other hand, Ukraine claims that it targeted Russian ships. The ships were carrying military equipment. President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Russia is helping Iran in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Incidentally, Western countries have long been concerned about military cooperation between Russia and Iran. Kyiv and its allies have been accusing them of using Iranian-made drones in the war in Ukraine.
