The rule hearing on the bail of Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari (Chandan Kumar Dhar) in two cases has concluded. After the hearing in the High Court bench today (July 26), Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taheri fixed August 2 as the date for the verdict.
Advocate Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya was present in the court on behalf of Chinmoy Das. Earlier, the High Court had issued a rule asking why Chandan Kumar Dhar should not be granted bail in these two vandalism cases. On October 31, 2024, BNP General Secretary Firoz Khan of Chandgaon Mohra Ward in the city filed a case against Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and 19 others at the Kotwali Police Station on charges of sedition. Chinmoy Krishna and a few others have been arrested in this case. Meanwhile, on November 26 last year, a clash broke out in the Chittagong court premises over the uproar over the rejection of bail for Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was arrested in a sedition case. During this, lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death. About two dozen accused have been arrested for their involvement in the incident. More cases have since been filed.
