Opposition’s statement on former president has nothing to take into account: Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said, we have received the cooperation of the recently deceased President Md. Shahabuddin. While performing his duties, he will get some benefits according to the constitution. A case cannot be filed against the President in any court for criminal offenses. He said this in response to questions from journalists at a briefing at the Secretariat this Sunday (July 26) afternoon.
The Home Minister said, while performing his duties as President, he has performed his constitutional duties during the last term of the autocratic government, the entire term of the interim government and the last five-six months of the current political government. He has performed his duties in accordance with the prevailing rules and regulations.
He also said, the people will have the freedom to speak and protest politically. That too. Various political parties, NCP and others are raising some allegations against the President on behalf of the opposition. They can do that. But there is no statement to take into account there. Md. Regarding Shahabuddin’s facilities, the Home Minister said that as a former President, he will get all the facilities he is entitled to as per the law. For his security, the protection of the Special Security Force (SSF) and the President’s Guard Regiment (PGR) will continue for six months. In addition, the police and other law enforcement agencies will also ensure his security. All the facilities he is entitled to as per the law will be provided.
Regarding the outgoing President’s telephone conversation with the former Prime Minister, he said, “Does he really need to go to London to talk? In this internet age, it is possible to communicate from any part of the world. Therefore, this demand that he has to go to London to talk seems completely unreasonable to me.”
We have coordinated with all the relevant agencies to ensure that both the Rath Yatra and Ulto Rath festivals are held smoothly and peacefully and that there is no chaos. The government’s intelligence agencies have also coordinated their duties.
Regarding former IGP Benazir, who was arrested in Dubai, he said that the government is making every effort to bring her back to the country. All the documents requested by the Dubai government have been sent to her. Regarding police members, the Home Minister said that the government will reward those who serve the country by fulfilling their respective responsibilities and duties. However, if there is any deviation from this, they will be reprimanded.
