Councilor Ekramul Haque, Hasina and 11 others killed in ‘crossfire’ submit investigation report to tribunal
An investigation report has been submitted to the International Crimes Tribunal in the murder case of former Jubo League president Ekramul Haque. The report has been submitted against 11 people, including fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The state submitted the report of the case discussed at the International Crimes Tribunal-2 headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury on Sunday (July 26) morning.
When the nationwide anti-drug campaign began in 2018, three-time councilor Ekramul Haque was killed in an alleged gunfight with RAB in the Noakhalipara area of Marine Drive Road in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar on the night of May 26 of the same year. After the incident, his wife Ayesha Begum claimed that Ekramul was killed ‘in a cold-blooded manner’.
At a press conference in Cox’s Bazar on May 31 of that year, Ekramul’s wife demanded a judicial investigation into the murder. He also provided media with some chilling audio clips of a cellphone conversation recorded during the alleged gunfight. One of the recordings shows the sound of a gun being pulled out, followed by gunshots, and then the sound of a man moaning.
