After blocking the road at Science Lab intersection in the capital demanding Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon’s resignation for taking HSC exams amid floods and calling students ‘farm chickens’, HSC examinees have started a long march towards the secretariat. They started their journey towards the secretariat from Science Lab intersection at around 3 pm today, Wednesday (July 15).
The students started the road blockade by taking a position at Science Lab intersection at around 2:30 pm. As per the previous announcement, they were supposed to gather in front of Science Lab intersection, Shahbagh, Moghbazar, ECB Chattar and Uttara BNS Center from 1:30 pm after the exams. From the scene, it can be seen that the students took a position at Science Lab intersection next to Elephant Road after 2:30 pm. This practically stopped traffic in the area.
This caused severe traffic jams. The disruption to normal traffic caused hardship to the common people. Earlier, students from various colleges blocked the Science Lab intersection at around 11 am on Tuesday. Later, after holding sit-in programs in Shahbagh, Dhaka University and Dhaka Education Board areas, they gathered at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area in the afternoon. Although the police dispersed them with batons, they resumed their sit-in in the evening.
Later, around 10 pm, the students announced their next program and left the area. Before lifting the blockade, Miraj, a student of Dhaka City College, announced to the students and media personnel present, “If our exams are not postponed by tonight, the ‘Long March towards the Ministry of Education’ program will be implemented tomorrow (Wednesday).”
