Spain beat France 2-0 to reach World Cup final
Euro champions Spain have outplayed France, who had dominated the tournament throughout, to reach the semi-finals. Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish brigade secured their place at MetLife Stadium as the first finalists of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win over Didier Deschamps’ France at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday (July 15).
France, who fell behind after 22 minutes to a successful penalty by Mikel Wierzabal, were unable to come back in the second half. After the break, Spain dashed their hopes of a comeback with a stunning goal from right-back Pedro Porro. Lamine Yamal found the back of the net in the 64th minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
The tournament’s best forward line of Mbappe, Dembele and Oliseh failed to instill any fear in the Spanish defense today. Seeing the fast pace of the game, French coach Deschamps did not get any advantage by bringing Manu Kone, Desiree Du, Ryan Cherki and Theo Hernandez onto the field in the second half. Instead, Spain held the French at bay with their dynamic midfield and strong defense to claim a resounding victory. The Spaniards will face the winner of the second semi-final between Argentina and England in the mega final to be held at MetLife Stadium next Sunday.
