Recruitment of 1 lakh workers in the health sector: Health Minister

The government has taken a major initiative to bring the country’s healthcare to the doorsteps of the common man. As part of this, 1 lakh new health workers will be recruited under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare very soon, said Health Minister Md. Sakhawat Hossain. He gave this information in response to a written question by MP Sabikunnahar during the Question and Answer Session of the Jatiya Sangsad today (July 13). Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal presided over the session at that time.
The Health Minister said that currently there are a large number of vacancies against the approved posts in government hospitals. Out of the 41,806 posts approved for doctors, 9,407 posts are vacant. In the case of nurses, 45,302 people are working against the approved posts of 49,879. That is, 4,577 posts are vacant.
According to the information given by the Minister, the biggest manpower crisis is among the field-level health workers. At this stage, there are a total of 18,947 vacant posts in various departments. Out of these, 8,293 are Family Welfare Assistants (FWA), 3,161 are Family Welfare Inspectors (FWV), 540 are Community Clinic CHCPs and 6,953 are Health Assistants (HA).
Highlighting the steps taken by the government to fill the vacant posts, the Minister said that to address the doctor crisis, the process of recruiting 450 people through the 45th BCS, 1,682 people through the 46th BCS, 1,331 people through the 47th BCS and 650 assistant surgeons through the 50th BCS is underway.
At the same time, the process of recruiting senior staff nurses and midwives is also in its final stages. The final results of the midwife posts have been published. Currently, their health check and police verification are underway. Finally, reiterating the promise of the election manifesto of the current government, the Health Minister said that one lakh new health workers will be recruited very soon. He assured the Parliament that this huge recruitment process will be completed as soon as possible and manpower will be recruited in the vacant posts.
