On the afternoon of July 9, 2025, Sohag alias Lal Chand, a scrap iron and old wire trader, was crushed to death by a concrete boulder with his body and head in front of Gate No. 3 of Mitford Hospital. Widespread criticism began when the video of the incident went viral on social media.
Police and locals say that all those who were seen participating in the murder and whose names are emerging behind the scenes are known to them. Some of them were once business associates of Sohag. Those who know them cannot even imagine that someone could be killed in such a horrific way due to a business dispute.
In this incident, Sohag’s elder sister Manjura Begum has filed a case as a plaintiff with the Kotwali Police Station. On December 8 last year, the investigating officer of the Kotwali Police Station, Inspector Moniruzzaman, filed a chargesheet against 21 accused.
However, due to some errors and omissions in the chargesheet, the application was approved on January 20 and further investigation of the case was ordered. After further investigation, a chargesheet was filed in the court against 21 people on May 10.
