The continuous rain and landslides for several days have disrupted public life in three hill districts and Cox’s Bazar. Lakhs of people trapped in the water are in extreme distress.
Among them, the waters of the Sangu, Matamuhuri and Bankhali rivers have overflowed, submerging most of the low-lying areas of Bandarban. Lakhs of people trapped in the water are suffering from food shortages. Road communication with Chittagong is closed. The administration is providing relief assistance to the shelters and the army and BGB are providing relief assistance to remote areas. However, relief assistance has not reached some areas.
Due to continuous rain and landslides, low-lying areas including Baghaichhari, Langadu, Barkal and Bilaichhari in Rangamati are still submerged. Due to continuous rain and landslides in Baghaichhari, road communication with Dhaka and Chittagong via Khagrachari and Dighinala has been cut off.
Despite intermittent rains, the situation in the flooded areas of Khagrachari is gradually returning to normal. The water has completely receded from the low-lying areas of the Chengi River and nearby canals. Traffic has resumed. However, thousands of families are still submerged in water in Chhota Merung Union. Meanwhile, despite heavy rains, the low-lying areas of Chakaria, Pekua, Ramu and other upazilas of Cox’s Bazar are still submerged. Vast areas and hilly terrain have been submerged in rainwater. However, the water is gradually receding. There is a shortage of food and clean water. Residents are living in extreme misery. Although the administration has provided relief assistance, it is insufficient compared to the need.
