Youth dies after being electrocuted while showing Brazil match on big screen
A youth named Zahirul Islam (24) died after being electrocuted while arranging to show a match of the Brazilian football team on a big screen. The accident occurred at around 7:30 pm last Sunday (July 5) in Hartakibaria village of Chhotabighai union in Sadar upazila of Patuakhali when he came into contact with a high-voltage wire while connecting the electricity.
He was buried in the family graveyard after the funeral at 11 am yesterday (July 6). Locals said that to enjoy the Brazilian game together, the youth of the village took the initiative to show the game on a big screen through a multimedia projector.
Being an electrician by profession, Zahirul Islam took charge of the electricity connection. While connecting the connection, he inadvertently came into contact with a high-voltage power line passing over the road and was electrocuted. His body was burnt on the spot. Locals quickly rescued him and took him to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.
The deceased Zahirul Islam is the son of Altaz Mia of Hartakibaria village. He earned his living as an electrician. His untimely death has cast a shadow of grief over the family. He leaves behind his wife Zakia Akhtar and their only five-year-old child, leaving the family facing an uncertain future.
Relatives said that Zahirul had a deep love for football, especially the Brazilian team. For the past few days, he had been busy with various preparations, including putting up banners and posters in the area on the occasion of the game. He also arranged a big screen so that everyone in the village could enjoy the game together. But that joyful arrangement ultimately took his life.
According to local residents, Zahirul was a hardworking, humble and beloved young man. He valued the happiness of others more than his own. After his death, a shadow of grief has fallen over the entire area. Many have called on the government, public representatives, wealthy individuals and various organizations to come forward to help his helpless family. Patuakhali Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moniruzzaman said, “We have received information about the death of a young man due to electrocution. As there was no complaint from the family, the body was handed over to the relatives after completing the necessary legal procedures.”
