Iran has warned that talks on a final agreement between the two countries will not start if US threats continue. The country’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the ‘politics of threats’ must first be stopped to create an environment for talks. In a post on social media today (July 7), Araghchi said that Article 13 of the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington is clear on this matter.
He wrote, ‘Negotiations on a final agreement will not start if threats continue.’ In the same post, he pointed to the US and added, ‘Respect your signature.’ Araghchi claimed that millions of people took to the streets to pay their last respects to Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to him, this public gathering proves that the Iranian people and armed forces are not afraid of any kind of threat.
“Millions of Iranians have gathered to pay their respects to our leader. Neither the people nor the Iranian armed forces are afraid of this threat,” he said. Tensions between Tehran and Washington have continued in recent times. Araghchi’s comments have created new uncertainty about possible diplomatic talks and future relations between the two countries.
