29 people died on Sylhet roads in June

29 people died in road accidents in Sylhet division in June. The number of road accidents and fatalities in the division decreased slightly in June compared to May this year. In total, 29 people were killed and 36 were injured in 29 road accidents in Sylhet division in June. 12 of the fatalities were pedestrians.
Among the four districts in the division, Sunamganj had the highest number of deaths, while Sylhet district had the lowest number of deaths. The report said that lack of awareness of pedestrians, excessive speed, overtaking in violation of traffic laws, non-use of standard helmets by motorcyclists and riders, and road construction defects were the main reasons for these accidents.
The Sylhet Divisional Safe Road Committee (NISCHA) released the report on Sunday (July 5). According to the report, 5 people were killed and 8 were injured in 6 road accidents in Sylhet district in June. 10 people were killed and 12 were injured in 11 accidents in Sunamganj district. 7 people were killed and 4 were injured in 5 accidents in Moulvibazar district. And in Habiganj district, 7 people were killed and 12 injured in 7 accidents.
In a statement sent to the media, Jahirul Islam Mishu, co-organizing secretary of the central committee of Nistar, member secretary of the Sylhet divisional committee and Sylhet district convener, said that the report has been prepared based on information received from five local dailies, various online media, two national dailies, unpublished or unannounced incidents and the branch organizations of the Sylhet division of Nistar.
The report also said that among the deceased, 5 motorcycle drivers and riders were killed in 4 accidents, 5 CNG auto-rickshaw and tom-tom drivers and riders in 4 accidents, 9 drivers of various vehicles in 9 accidents and 12 pedestrians in 12 accidents.
According to the type of accident, 2 people were killed in 4 incidents of vehicles losing control and overturning, 5 people in 6 incidents of head-on collisions and 2 people in 3 incidents of hitting trees or electricity poles. Additionally, out of the 29 people killed in June, 20 were men, 5 were women and 4 were children. Incidentally, in May this year, 51 people were killed and 65 were injured in 42 road accidents in Sylhet division.
