3 children drown in pond in Narsingdi

Three teenage girls from the same family drowned while bathing in a pond in Narsingdi’s Monohardi upazila. The incident took place on Saturday (July 4) afternoon in Char-Ahmadpur village of Khidirpur union of the upazila. The deceased are Fatema (8), daughter of Saiful Islam of Khidirpur area, Ayesha alias Ashamoni (12), daughter of his cousin Tuhin Mia, and Sumaiya Akhter (13), daughter of their aunt Mufachher alias Shukkur Ali.
Relatives said that the three of them had gone to bathe in a pond near their house in the afternoon. When they did not float to the surface of the water after a long time, a child of the family informed others about the matter. Later, relatives and local people went into the pond and rescued them. Preparations were made to take them to the hospital, but they died by then.
Officer-in-charge of Monohardi Police Station Md. Jahangir Badsha said that two of the deceased were students of class four and one was a student of class five of a local Qaumi Madrasa. The death of three girls from the same family has cast a shadow of grief over the area. Police said that necessary measures will be taken after discussing with higher officials.
