PHP Family Vice Chairman Mohammad Mohsin is the new president of BSBRA

PHP Family Vice Chairman Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury has been elected as the new president of Bangladesh Shipbreakers and Recyclers Association (BSBRA). Mohammad Selim Uddin was elected as the senior vice president. Both of them were elected unopposed. Although Amjad Hossain was a candidate for the post of president, the election management board canceled his candidacy due to loan default.
In addition, Md. Nur Uddin and Gazi Mukarram Ali Chowdhury were elected as vice presidents. The remaining seven executive members elected are – Md. Zahidul Haque, Md. Taslim Uddin, SM Nurunnabi, Md. Ferdous Wahid, Ubaida Asadi, Hossainul Arefin and AKM Saifullah Said.
After the election, BSBRA Election Management Board Chairman Aftab Uddin Chowdhury announced the results of the vote on Saturday afternoon. Voting was held continuously from 9 am to 1 pm at the Radisson Blu in the city. Out of the 84 voters of the organization, 71 exercised their right to vote.
The chairman of the election board said that since there was a single candidate for the posts of president and senior vice president, those two posts were declared elected unopposed. Voting continued for the remaining two vice president posts and seven executive member posts. Three people fought for the two vice president posts. There were 9 candidates for the seven member posts.
After voting, PHP Family Chairman Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman told our time that the elections of the Ship Breaking and Recyclers Association are being held after a long time. We exercised our right to vote in a spontaneous and joyful atmosphere. Those who truly deserve leadership in the organization will be elected through voting. The elected leaders will make arrangements so that we can maintain contact with everyone and manage our business smoothly.
He said that there is basically no steel mill in Bangladesh. Because the main raw material for making steel has to be imported from abroad. The shipbreaking sector is a huge sector, our country has been supplying iron through shipbreaking. So it is a necessary and big sector. I hope the new leaders will try to make this business work together, gain international fame and provide the iron products our country needs at affordable prices. They will manage this sector well.
Shipbreaking yard owner SN Corporation and Eastern Bank PLC Chairman Shawkat Ali Chowdhury said, we will present our plans for the shipbreaking sector to the SAARC. We will also make some demands for the development of the country and society. Earlier, most of the yards were not of modern standards; currently, work is underway to build environmentally friendly yards. In the meantime, many have been converted into green shipyards.
In immediate response, newly elected President Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury said, we want to work with everyone for the development of the shipbreaking industry. This industry has huge potential. The government needs policy support to utilize that potential. We will also present necessary demands to the government.
