Home Minister to visit New York to attend UN-COPS Conference

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed is visiting New York, USA, to attend the 5th United Nations Police Chiefs’ Conference ‘UN-COPS’ to be held at the United Nations Headquarters. During this visit, the Minister will participate in various plenary sessions, including the inaugural session of the ‘UN-COPS’ Conference to be held at the United Nations General Assembly Hall on July 8.
This year’s conference will feature three important plenary sessions titled ‘Future Outlook for UN Police’, ‘Innovation and New Technologies in UN Policing’ and ‘Enhancing International Cooperation to Address Inter-State Challenges’. He will also attend a high-level dinner organized as a side event of the conference.
During his stay in New York, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed will hold bilateral meetings with UN Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, and Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary A. DiCarlo.
He will also participate in important bilateral meetings with home ministers of various countries. These meetings will discuss Bangladesh’s contribution to UN peacekeeping operations, participation and capacity building of Bangladesh Police, deployment of specialized police units, future priorities of peacekeeping operations, and various issues of mutual interest.
It is worth noting that the Minister is leading a 5-member Bangladesh delegation to this two-day (July 7-8) conference. The Minister will leave Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport in Dhaka on an Emirates Airlines flight at 1:40 am today, Sunday (July 5) to participate in the conference. He is scheduled to return to Dhaka on July 12.
