Robbery at the house of a judge couple in Jamalpur
A judge couple in Jamalpur was robbed of eight gold ornaments, a diamond ring, one lakh taka in cash and other valuables by cutting the window grill of their rented house. The incident took place on Tuesday (June 30) night in the Amlapara area of the municipal city.
The victim, Civil Judge Ahmadul Kabir Shakil, works at the Melandah Civil Judge Court of the Jamalpur court, and his wife, Civil Judge Nusrat Jerin Jenny, works at the Dewanganj Civil Judge Court. According to local sources, the judge couple has been renting the third floor of a three-storey building owned by Md. Anwar Hossain, a resident of the Amlapara area of the municipal city, for the past seven months.
Ahmadul Kabir Shakil left his house yesterday afternoon to drop his wife off at her village home. Taking advantage of the absence of anyone at home, someone broke the window grill and stole valuables including eight tons of gold jewelry, a diamond ring and one lakh taka in cash.
Civil Judge Ahmadul Kabir Shakil said that he became suspicious when he returned home around 8 pm and did not open the door. Later, he broke the door and entered and found the window grills cut, the houses vandalized and the cupboards and drawers scattered. That’s when I realized that the house had been robbed.
The owner of the house, Md. Anwar Hossain, said that I have five units in my three-story building. This house has never been robbed before. Although there is a CCTV camera in the building, it is currently inoperative. It is believed that the miscreants deliberately disabled the CCTV and stole it.
Jamalpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC, Investigation) Noor Mohammad said that a theft occurred at the house of the judge couple. After receiving information, the police visited the scene. The matter is under investigation. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
