Washington is sending optimistic messages about a possible meeting in Doha, Qatar, while Tehran is denying a direct meeting. Earlier, concerns about a peace deal were raised after two consecutive days of US-Iranian retaliation.
The US and Iran have again announced a ceasefire after the recent two days of retaliation. US President Donald Trump claimed that the two sides will face off in Doha today (June 30). He also claimed that Iran requested the meeting after the recent retaliation. The White House said that US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are going to Qatar for possible talks.
Donald Trump said that there will be a meeting in Doha tomorrow on this issue. But it may or may not be important. We will find out. Militarily, we have almost won. We do not want Iran to have nuclear weapons, and they do not want nuclear weapons either. They have agreed to it.
However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has directly rejected Trump’s claim. Tehran said that no technical or working-group meetings are scheduled this week. However, an expert delegation is being sent to Qatar to review the progress of the return of the seized funds.
“We have no working-group meetings scheduled. So, we are not having any discussions in Doha. I have learned through the media that some US officials are going there. However, this has nothing to do with the presence of an Iranian expert delegation in Qatar,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said.
Meanwhile, in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the deal with the US is a purely bilateral matter. If Washington implements the promises of the memorandum of understanding, Tehran will also fulfill its commitments. However, he also made it clear that nuclear talks will not start unless there is progress on the return of seized assets and the lifting of sanctions.
Earlier, two consecutive days of reciprocal attacks between the United States and Iran created new uncertainty about a possible reconciliation process.
