Case filed against BNP leader and seven others for allegedly cutting down a farmer’s tree worth lakhs of rupees in Lakshmipur

A BNP leader and seven others have been charged with attacking, looting and cutting down fruit and vegetable trees at a farmer’s house in Raipur, Lakshmipur over a land dispute. The victim farmer Murad Hossain has filed a written complaint against the seven accused at Raipur Police Station. The incident took place on Friday (June 26) morning in Charbangshi area of ​​Ward No. 5 of Uttar Charbangshi Union of the upazila. Accused Shahjahan Kabiraj is the BNP president of Ward No. 4 of Uttar Charbangshi Union.
In his complaint, Murad Hossain said that the accused, including Shahjahan Kabiraj, had been trying to seize the land owned by him for the past few days. Despite several rounds of local arbitration and meetings regarding the land, no solution has been found. He claimed that despite filing a complaint with the police station, he did not get any redress.
He further alleged that a group of 8 to 10 people led by Shahjahan Kabiraj attacked his house on Friday morning. Later, they cut down about 200 banana trees, 70 to 80 betel nut trees, 50 papaya trees and 22 coconut trees from his farmland. At the same time, they looted vegetables and fruits. He claimed that he suffered a loss of about Tk 2.25 lakh.
Murad Hossain claimed that when he and his family members went to stop them after receiving information, the accused beat them up. He alleged that at that time women and children were also beaten up, some women were molested and gold ornaments were snatched away. Later, locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Raipur Government Hospital.
However, Shahjahan Kabiraj denied the allegations and said, “I have no involvement in this incident. I did not even go near that land. The person who bought the land went there to clean his land. The allegations against me are completely false and baseless.” Raipur Police Station OC Shahin Mia said that a person named Murad Hossain has filed a written complaint. The complaint will be investigated and legal action will be taken.
