Courtesy call on the Prime Minister by the Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with Liu Haixing, Minister of International Relations of the Communist Party of China. The meeting discussed ways to further strengthen the relations between the two countries, enhance development cooperation and enhance people-to-people exchanges. The meeting was held at the State Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing at 9:15 am, China local time, on Thursday (June 25).
Liu Haixing referred to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the BNP and the Communist Party of China and expressed his interest in further strengthening communication and cooperation between the two parties. He expressed hope that new areas of cooperation would be created in the future, especially in the areas of media, think tanks, people-to-people exchanges and improving the quality of life. He said that China is a strong supporter of Bangladesh’s sovereignty, security and development. He also emphasized on advancing the relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation.
The Prime Minister looked forward to China’s cooperation in various development projects in Bangladesh and the construction of the China-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital. She expressed hope that the long-standing tradition of friendly relations between the two countries would continue in the future. The Minister of International Affairs of the Communist Party of China agreed with the Prime Minister’s statement and said that he was optimistic that the people of Bangladesh would enjoy a better life under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. Earlier, a memorandum of understanding was signed for the first time between the BNP and the Communist Party of China at the same venue. Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir signed the memorandum on behalf of the BNP and Liu Haixing, Minister of International Affairs of the Communist Party of China, signed the memorandum on behalf of China. Both sides expressed hope to increase cooperation in political communication, media, think tanks and people-to-people relations. Senior officials of the two countries were present at the time.
