Cristiano Ronaldo has reached a new milestone in the history of the FIFA World Cup. The Portugal captain has written his name in the pages of history as the first footballer to score in six different World Cups by scoring against Uzbekistan. Ronaldo set the record by scoring from close range in the sixth minute of the match held in Houston on Tuesday (June 23). With this, his total number of goals in the World Cup has reached 10.
Ronaldo, who made his World Cup debut in 2006, is playing his sixth World Cup. The 41-year-old star has given further proof of his consistency in international football for more than two decades. Ronaldo’s first goal in the World Cup came against Iran in 2006. Starting from that tournament until the 2026 World Cup, he has been making his presence felt in every era.
However, before the match against Uzbekistan, the Portuguese superstar faced criticism. His performance in the 1-1 draw against DR Congo in the first match of the World Cup was questioned. In addition, Ronaldo had gone 10 consecutive matches without a goal in major international tournaments, where he had only one assist to his name.
However, he answered the criticism on the field. He had a chance to score in the third minute of the match. Although he could not connect properly with Nuno Mendes’ cross, he made no mistake a few minutes later. He took advantage of the opportunity to score and put the team ahead, while also setting a unique record. Ronaldo, who made his debut in the Portugal jersey in 2003, currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al Nasr. He scored 28 goals in 30 league matches for the club in the just-concluded season.
By creating new history on the World Cup stage, Ronaldo once again proved that age is just a number for him. The legend, who has dominated world football at the highest level for more than two decades, is still a record-breaking hero.
