Iranian Parliament Speaker Baqer Ghalibaf said on his return to Tehran after concluding preliminary talks with the US in Switzerland that the Strait of Hormuz ‘will remain under Iran’s control’.
“We hope that we can reactivate the strait so that the flow of goods can return to normal and prosperity can return to the regional and global economies,” he said.
The Iranian parliament speaker also said that the release of Iran’s seized assets and the sale of oil are also on the agenda in ongoing talks with the US. According to analysts, such comments on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz could create new significance in regional geopolitics.
Meanwhile, as part of positive progress in ongoing bilateral peace talks in Switzerland, the US Treasury Department has issued a 60-day ‘general license’, temporarily lifting sanctions on the production, supply and sale of Iranian crude oil and petrochemical products on the global market.
