Husband and wife arrested while delivering Yaba consignment to hospital patient, patient flees
A couple was caught red-handed while delivering Yaba consignment to a patient undergoing treatment at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital. At that time, police recovered 17,000 Yaba from them. However, the patient to whom the consignment of drugs was supposed to be delivered fled after sensing the presence of the police.
The operation was conducted at around 9:30 pm on Sunday (June 21) in the ART Center area of the 250-bed District Sadar Hospital in Cox’s Bazar. The arrested are Ayesha Akhter and Jagir Hossain, residents of Nayapara area of Hnila Union in Teknaf.
Police said that as part of a well-planned strategy to evade law and order, they brought the Yaba consignment using the crowded government hospital as a safe haven. An investigation is underway to determine whether any organized gang is involved behind this incident.
It is learnt that on Sunday night around 9:30 pm, Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police conducted a raid in the ART Center area of the 250-bed District Sadar Hospital in Cox’s Bazar. 17,000 Yaba pills were recovered after searching the blue packets kept in a row among the patients. Each packet contained 90 to 100 tablets. Later, the Yaba pills were counted and repackaged in front of the detained couple.
During initial interrogation, the detainees said that they had come to deliver the Yaba consignment to Jobayer alias Farid, who was undergoing treatment at the Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital. However, Jobayer fled the hospital after receiving news of the raid. The police are investigating whether any organized drug gang is active using the hospital as a hideout.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, acting OC of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, said that the raid was conducted based on information that a couple was coming towards the Sadar Hospital from the Hoaijiang area of Teknaf with Yaba in a CNG vehicle. Despite continuous rain since 4 pm, multiple groups took up positions at different places. Later, when they reached in front of CNGT Sadar Hospital, they were arrested. He further said that during initial interrogation, the detainees revealed that Jobair alias Farid, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital, was involved. However, he was not found in the hospital after the operation. He had fled. It is being investigated whether anyone else is involved in such drug trade using the hospital. Legal action is being taken against the two detainees.
