A historic preliminary peace deal between the US and Iran is set to be signed today (June 14), ending a long-standing bitter conflict. US President Donald Trump made this claim in a post on his social media account ‘Truth Social’.
In his message, President Trump said that immediately after the deal is signed, the ‘Strait of Hormuz’, one of the most important and strategic waterways in world trade, will be reopened to all. Claiming that Washington’s relations with Iran under the current administration are much better than under any previous US administration, Trump said that the US is interested in working together with all countries in the Middle East, including Iran. He expressed hope that the entire agreement process will be completed very quickly and easily. However, at the same time, indirectly warning Tehran, Trump said that Washington is fully prepared for any alternative and tough measures if these talks are not successful.
Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, one of the main architects of the ongoing mediation process between the two arch-rivals, posted on social media platform X-A (formerly Twitter). In it, he said that the US and Iran have finally agreed on a sustainable ‘peace framework’ for this historic deal. An ‘electronic agreement’ between the two countries could be signed within the next 24 hours. However, despite such strong claims by the Pakistani Prime Minister and the US President, Tehran is proceeding cautiously. The Iranian government said that the agreement signed on Sunday ‘is not yet fully final’. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has indicated that discussions on some terms are still ongoing.
